Here is a quick update on my personal hiking challenge of walking 2,021 miles in 2021.
This was the week that I had been hoping would not come but had planned for. I missed my goal (not by much: less than 6 miles) so I was glad that I had accumulated a buffer during the first three months of the year. I ended up taking two zero days this week followed by three days of about five miles per day.
The issue was not motivation; it was a physical one. Last week I tweaked my back doing some yard work. It was uncomfortable, but I was still able to walk and managed to accumulate some good mileage. However, several days later, I had a major bout with back pain. I felt like an old man… wait, I am an old man. Anyway, I was having a difficult time moving, sitting, standing, and laying down – just about any position was difficult, although I did not try standing on my head.
That lasted two days and then I eased my way back into walking for the rest of the week. Thanks to two stronger day on Friday and Saturday (April 9 and 10) I was able to log in 33.4 miles for the week. That missed the minimum of 39 miles per week by 5.6 miles, but I was almost 96 miles ahead of pace, so I am still in good shape moving forward. It was a great weather week for walking, but I had to enjoy most of it from a chair looking out the window (actually, I was working on my laptop with curtains covering the windows, but that does not sound sad enough).
With the sympathy vote still outstanding, I look forward this week (April 16 – April 22) to enjoying some time on the trails and around the neighborhood.
With limited mileage comes limited pictures, but I did snap a few.
